Kooinda Boutique Brewery began as the first residential licensed breweries in Australia and has had many changes over the last few years. With it’s focus on using the very best ingredients possible, there’s no denying these beers are extremely easy going down. Their core range featuring a cult favourite black IPA, is now brewed offsite by a third party so they can focus on more experimental and creative craft brewing. The space is basic and relaxed with some couches and tables set up, plus an area for live sports viewing and even a Nintendo 64.

Urban Alley Brewery
Urban Alley brewery is all about sustainability while brewing incredible tasting beers. It shares resources with the next door neighbour distillery to reduce energy consumption and has it’s own biowaste plant. Grab a pint and a bit and watch the brewing process as it takes place through the huge glass windows or head out to the beer garden in the summer and head over to the central double fireplace to stay toasty in the winter.

That’s right, you can get your hot little hands on a frosty Vitamin Beer between the hours of 2pm and 4pm at any one of these listed venues this Sunday the 26th of May, and it’s on VB’s dime.
Their website simply states: “There’s been a lot of talk over the last few months. While we don’t know what’s coming next, we do know this. It’s the start of another week and it’s time to get back to doing what we do best: working hard. That’s the only way we are going to push this country forward.
“For everyone ready to get on with the job of making Australia a better place, it’s our shout.”

Dalmore 49-year Scotch Is a Unique One-Off with a Special Purpose
Distilleries don’t typically do batches of one, but that’s exactly what the Dalmore 49-year-old Scotch being offered at Sotheby’s is. Dalmore’s Master Distiller Richard Paterson partnered with Italian chef Massimo Bottura to create a single bottle of Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
The whiskey was made from three unique assemblages and comes presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter with a sterling silver collar and stopper. The bottle comes in a handcrafted wooden cabinet made of Italian olive, American black walnut, and ebony. The buyer of the bottle will also win a dinner for two at Massimo’s restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy.
A three Michelin star restaurant, the Osteria Francescana has been ranked in the top five at The World’s Best Restaurants Awards since 2010. Proceeds from the sale will go to benefit Massimo’s non-profit organization, Food for Soul, which has the mission of promoting awareness about food wastage and hunger.
On the experience of working with Paterson, Massimo stated, “When Master Distiller Richard Paterson and I met in Modena, it was a true meeting of the minds. Our creative processes seamlessly fused together with our passion and deep understanding of flavour complexity and connection to create a very special bottle that brings together some of the most precious scotch whiskey barrels in the world.”
Paterson stated, “The coming together of our passions allowed me to create a whiskey that is bold, different, full of warmth and completely unforgettable.”
Sullivans Cove Teases Small Batch Whiskies to Celebrate 25 Years
Australia’s most awarded distillery Sullivans Cove is teasing a series of limited edition whiskies, collaborations and special events as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations.
The Tasmanian whisky brand hasn’t revealed any further details beyond plans to use Australian native hardwood barrels and removing filtration from the equation. Instead, choosing to focus on the long list of accomplishments that includes three “World’s Best Single Malt” whisky awards. Sullivans Cove is the only distillery to win this award more than once.
Sullivans Cove took out Best Single Malt in 2014. 2018 and 2019 and is the first distillery to earn the award from outside Scotland or Japan. It’s also the first Australian whisky brand to gain “Liquid Gold” status in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible back in 2007.
Head Distiller Patrick Maguire recently became only the third Aussie ever inducted into the global Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame. Looking towards the future, Maguire said: “We’re never satisfied to rest on our laurels around here, so we’re always trying to innovate and lead in the Australian whisky industry.”
“We’ve recently laid down two full-sized casks of whisky coopered from Australian native hardwood, and this year we’re also making a move away from any form of filtration, which will allow our whiskies to be enjoyed in their completely natural form.”
Founded in 1994 on the shores of Hobart’s Sullivans Cove, the Sullivans distillery is still 100% independently owned and operated, with every drop distilled, selected and bottled by hand. While plans for the remainder of 2019 and beyond are still under wraps, It’s safe to say they will include more award-winning whisky.
