Is Robert Pattinson the next Batman?

Published

on

Going from Twilight to Dark Knight, it’s just been announced that Robert Pattinson is in final negotiations to play the caped crusader in the 2021 project, ‘The Batman’. A fan favourite superhero, Batman has been portrayed by some of the best actors Hollywood has to offer. Most recently, Ben Affleck in the abysmal Justice League adaptations and before that Christian Bale in Nolan’s exquisite Dark Knight Trilogy.

Known best for playing teen heart-throb vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, Robert Pattinson has some big shoes to fill. Not exactly known for his acting chops, Pattinson’s performance will depend upon a solid script and captivating supporting actors.

Whilst many think that it’s a bit too soon for another attempt at a Batman franchise, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. has opted to resurrected the hero after the hit and miss Justice League series. At the helm of the latest project is Matt Reeves, best known for writing and directing the Planet of the Apes trilogy. If this is anything to go by we’re in for action packed, plot driven drama.

Most superhero movies of today fall short when they trade in character arcs for over the top action sequences. Fingers crossed, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have learnt from their recent flops and invest the right amount of time, money and effort it takes to make a film, rather than trying to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What do you think of Robert Pattinson playing Batman? Let us know below.

• X-Men

In X-Men: Dark Phoenix, a tragic accident forces team telepath Jean Grey to evolve into the iconic comic book villain Dark Phoenix. Jean Grey is of course played by Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner, who portrayed Sansa Stark through all eight seasons.

Here’s the pitch for X-Men: Dark Phoenix:

During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the team apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.

For your chance to WIN, fill in the competition form below. It’s that easy. For everyone else, each movie is available now in 4K Ultra HD at JB HiFi.

Want to Cancel Foxtel after Game Of Thrones but Still Want Sports?

Published

In a completely unsurprising turn of events, Australians are googling “Cancel Foxtel” at a very high rate, following the finale of hit HBO show Game of Thrones.

The show, which covers the zany hijinks of a plucky bunch of incestuous marauders as they rape and murder each other in the name of sitting on a chair made of knives, has been a boon for the streaming service, which normally only attracts the likes of sports fans and people who haven’t heard of Netflix. Now, just as Drogon did after melting the shit out of the Iron Throne, customers are flying the hell away.

The spike, as noted here by Google Trends, happened in the hours after the final episode went live at 11am on Monday, Australian Eastern Standard Time, and is probably causing more than just a stir at Foxtel HQ, given how much the platform relied on Game of Thrones to attract viewers.

Further to this is the fact that Kayo Sports launched recently; a streaming service which offers over 50 sports on demand for a set price: similar to Foxtel, but tailored to sports fans who want to stream their favourite matches in HD whenever and wherever, without having to pay for multiple platforms.

For anybody thinking about giving Foxtel the flick in the wake of the GOT finale, but who is also keen to maintain access to their favourite games, head over to the Kayo site for a 14-day free trial, and stop doing to your wallet what Daenerys did to Kings Landing.

Watch the Westworld Season 3 Trailer Starring Aaron Paul

Published

on

By

During the polarising Game of Thrones finale, HBO dropped the first teaser trailer for the third season of its sci-fi drama Westworld. The new season looks to be a significant departure from what came before, leaving the confines of the adults-only theme park for the futuristic outside world. Following the events of last season, things were never going to be the same.

The teaser features Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as an unspecified blue collar criminal type searching for meaning in a world of future tech and robots. Right at the end, he’s seen offering help to an injured woman, right before the camera focuses on her face revealing it to be none other than Westworld hero/possible villain Delores who’s played by Evan Rachel Wood.

None of the other staple cast members are seen at all. Fans did point out that rapper Kid Cudi plays the prison inmate behind the glass. HBO has also announced that the new season will add Vincent Cassel, Lena Waithe, Scott Mescudi and Marshawn Lynch to the ensemble.

That’s about all the season 3 info we know at this stage. During season two, it was revealed that the Delos corporation has six theme parks total. So far, we’ve only seen three – Westworld, Shogun World and The Raj. With three to be unveiled, it’s likely the series will return to its roots at some point.

Maybe the only disappointing part of the teaser is the release date. No concrete plans as such, but the new season won’t air until sometime in 2020. That’s going to be quite the wait. In the meantime, HBO’s upcoming Watchmen reboot/sequel/spin-off/whatever from The Leftovers creator is looking pretty darn good.
