Forbes World’s Richest Athlete List 2019

Published

on

It’s not news to tell you that professional athletes are getting paid more than ever. Forbes has a list of the world’s richest athletes, but it is becoming increasingly competitive to make it onto that list. Just five years ago, an athlete only need to have a $17.3 million dollar salary to crack the list. Now that figure has risen to $25 million.

Over the course of three decades since the list has been maintained, only seven athletes have taken the top spot. Tiger Woods has topped the list the most with 12 stays at number 1. Lionel Messi became the eighth athlete to claim top rankings. Messi is the second soccer player to do so, following Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rounding out the top 100 are athletes across 10 sports and from 25 countries. More than half of those 100 either play in the NFL or in the NBA. International stars are catching up, with 38 being outside of the US market, thanks to endorsement deals. Prize money also plays a major role—especially when you have athletes like Floyd Mayweather earning an impressive $285 million. Even if you don’t make it to the top of the list, things aren’t bad. For the tenth place athlete, earnings are up 150 percent over the last 15 years. Not bad for getting paid to play a game.

Here is the Forbes list of top 10 richest athletes of 2019:

  1. Lionel Messi ($127 Million)
  2. Cristiano Ronaldo ($109 Million)
  3. Neymar ($105 Million)
  4. Canelo Alvarez ($94 Million)
  5. Roger Federer ($93.4 Million)
  6. Russel Wilson ($89.5 Million)
  7. Aaron Rodgers ($89.3 Million)
  8. LeBron James ($79.8 Million)
  9. Stephen Curry ($79.8 Million)
  10. Kevin Durant ($65.4 Million)

Wayfair Comes through with the Human Billiard Bounce House

You’ve heard the jingle on commercials: “Wayfair, you’ve got just what I need.” That statement has never been truer than when talking about the Human Billiard Bounce House.

The inflatable bounce house is made of durable PVC coated vinyl and blows up into the shape of a billiards table. Using soccer balls to represent billiard balls, players climb into the house to act as if they are the cue stick by kicking the balls into the pockets. The bounce house comes with everything you need to get this giant billiards table set up, including the air blower, storage bag, anchor stakes and 16 balls made to look like billiards balls.

Billiard Bounce House

Fully inflated, the bounce house measures 30 feet long by 17 feet wide. You’ll need some friends to get it set up—it weighs 900 pounds. The air blower can fully inflate the house in just eight minutes (that’s a lot less time than it will take to get it positioned where you want it).

Even with a USD$4,299.99 price tag, there are only two left in stock, so don’t wait too long if you want to put your foot-eye coordination to the test.

€1,252,000 Armando – Most Expensive Bird Ever Sold at Auction

Published

By

How much would you pay for a bird? Not a ridiculously big or fancy bird. Not, like, an ostrich, or a toucan with a diamond-encrusted cloaca, or anything. Just a good, serviceable, standard bird. Like a pigeon, for example. How much would you pay for a pigeon?

Did you say less than 1,252,000 Euros? Haha, you fool, you know nothing of high finance. For that is the price paid for the world’s most expensive bird, Armando, at the Joel Verschoot pigeon auction, which I’m sure I don’t need to tell you is Europe’s most prestigious pigeon auction probably for all we know.

Armando is, admittedly, a fine-looking pigeon. But to be frank, so are the ones who eat garbage out of my bins, and I have yet to receive any firm offers for them. He has nice grey feathers with that attractive shade of shiny green and purple around the neck that tells you “yes, here is a pigeon”, and like all good birds, he has the eyes of a remorseless killer. He also has an outstanding racing record, and probably it’s his ability to race that gained him the big bucks, moreso than his feathers. Although the feathers are integral to the racing, so, it’s a pigeon and egg problem really.

In fact, Armando is the best one day long distance pigeon ever, which means that he is worth every bit of that million-plus Euros, assuming pigeon racing is much more lucrative than any of us ever imagined: and I guess we have to accept now that it is. Even better, seven of Armando’s children were sold at the same auction, for an average of 21,500 Euros each. So he’s not just a racer, he’s a lover.

All in all, Armando’s record price really makes you ponder the relationship between animals and humans, and more generally, just what the hell is going on.

Spalding Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Horween Leather Basketball

Published

Albert Goodwill Spalding produced the first basketball way back in 1894. To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the original “Spalding Basket Ball,” Spalding is reproducing 125 examples of that legendary ball.

The Spalding 125th Anniversary Horween Leather Basketball recreates the ball commissioned by the creator of basketball, Dr. James Naismith. Just like the original, this replica was made in four sections with capless ends and laces. Aside from the prominent leather stitching reminiscent of a football and now obsolete, the replica ball also features the “No. M” stamp, which was the official imprint designating the ball as a “Match Play” ball.

The ball also features the original A.G. Spalding & Bros trademark. Made from high-quality Horween leather, each ball will measure 19.5 inches. The ball comes in a special blue storage case.

Unfortunately, if you weren’t one of the lucky few to sign up for Spalding’s free MVP program online, you probably missed the announcement of the ball during the first game of the NBA Finals. The ball was priced at USD$250 and is currently sold out.
