The upcoming Nike Air Max 270 React sneaker is the first time the sports brand has fitted a lifestyle shoe with its trademark Air Unit. Combine this with the soft, smooth and resilient Nike React foam and wearers can hit the streets with the same supportive tech typically reserved for the court or track.
The shoe’s bright layering mirrors a cut-and-sew design, which is how it achieves the floating-eye aesthetic. Inspiration for the styling was drawn from the unique Element React 87, released back in 2018. Air Max 270 React will be available with distinct colours and geometries reserved for male and female versions.
The initial releases share traits originating with art and design history. Each colourway translates a specific artistic style or movement with its blocking and hues. The lead colourways, for example, channels the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the German art school that paved the way for studies of asymmetrical balance. Other colourways highlight San Francisco psychedelia, explorations of geometric compositions and more.
The Nike Air Max 270 React releases globally on July 3 and will be priced at RRP $220. You can secure a pair from Nike online and select retailers.
In other Nike news, the sporting giant has been busy. There’s a Stranger Things clothing collaboration on its way. Plus, the bright and bold BETRUE collection supports the creation of a more inclusive global culture.
Parley and adidas Change the World with Alphaedge 4D
adidas showed a lot of ambition when it came to developing the Alphaedge 4D. The shoe is the result of a lot of research and of a vision of what the future could be. And now the shoe will be more available than ever. “We are excited that we can now increase availability thanks to our innovative new manufacturing process, allowing athletes the world over to feel the future of performance footwear,” states Marco Kormann, the director of adidas’s Future Technology Innovation.
“This is what happens when sport meets Silicon Valley. In the past two years, adidas 4D has gone from a conceptual futurecraft innovation, to a running shoe that has revolutionized the industry, thanks to a data-driven experience that breaks new ground in performance capability and comfort.”
That innovation is centred on the midsole, which features an intricate lattice structure that is printed using light and oxygen through Carbon Digital Light Synthesis technology. The result is a midsole that absorbs pressure from any angle and helps propel the foot forward while also providing support. The outsole relies on over 140 years of Continental tyre technology and research to provide better traction zones for deeper cuts and faster acceleration.
adidas also partnered with Parley to use Ocean Plastic—plastic gathered from beaches and coasts to then be spun into high-performance material. The partnership is changing sports and the world for the better.
Back to the Future Continues to Inspire Nike’s Adapt BB Wolf Grey
Michael J. Fox was stunned by the Nike Mag self-lacing shoes he picked up when he went to the future in the second instalment of the Back to the Future series. That promise of self-lacing shoes has inspired Nike ever since, and they’ve continued on their quest to bring self-lacing shoes to the market. The most notable example is the Nike Adapt BB, which just received a new Wolf Grey colourway.
The Adapt BB is part of the Nike Mag shoe line, and the new Wolf Grey pays homage to that original shoe. The shoes themselves come with a grey Flyknit upper and the FitAdapt self-lacing component. The tongue and heel are decorated with green, red, and yellow accent dots that recall the Mag’s LED lights.
The midsole has a blue paint splatter pattern on it. The midsole is made of Nike’s Cushion Foam. The lateral side of the shoe features an oversized Swoosh and has two light-up buttons. The Adapt shoes have the added feature of providing a customized fit when you pair them with your smartphone via the Nike Adapt app.
These new shoes seem poised to follow in the tracks of the 2015 “Marty McFly” Hyperdunks, which saw incredible resale prices after their release. You can pick up a pair for USD$350.
Nike Drops Stranger Things Streetwear Collab
Nike is channelling your nostalgia for all things 1980s with the looming release of a Stranger Things collection.
The first drop of the collaborative capsule incorporates the Stranger Things Hawkins High’s green and orange colour scheme and Tiger mascot into a spirited mix of clothing and footwear.
Nike sweat suits are accompanied by complementary T-shirts resembling the ‘80s Physical education uniform, so let’s hope you have fond memories of gym class. Three sneaker styles match accordingly. They are the Nike Cortez, Blazer andTailwind 79. The pieces launch June 27.
A second drop of shoes arrives on July 1. Dubbed the “OG Pack,” each shoe carries a red, white and blue colour scheme celebrating Independence Day 1985 with a year marker on the heel and special firework display sock liner.
The upcoming Nike styles are releasing right in time for the third season of the hit Netflix series. Here’s the pitch for Stranger Things season 3:
It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms.
When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.
The Nike x Stranger Things collection rolls out across June 27 and July 1. Season 3 of Stranger Things debuts July 4 – American Independence Day.
In other pop-culture footwear news, Vans has launched a Harry Potter collection comprising shoes, hoodies and backpacks.
